Seven years ago, we started the 4runner Jamboree in Pismo Beach as a way to meet other 4runner aficionados and explore the dunes together. Well, after all these years, the Pismo Jamboree has stayed true to its original intent of gathering all Toyota aficionados and explore the dunes.

If you’ve never heard of the Pismo Jamboree, then you’ve been missing out on one of the best events held at Oceano Dunes SVRA in Pismo Beach located in central coast of California. The event is free and offers a wonderful opportunity to meet other Toyota enthusiasts enthusiastic about building your own vehicle(s) and using it on the trails.

This year’s event was a huge success with the generous support of our vendors. Without their generous support, this event would have been impossible to pull off. The 2009 Pismo Jamboree had two new records broken in its event history. First, we had 34 vendors sponsor the event by donating products and gears of which five vendors (Machine Fab, Overland Warehouse, Rolling Big Power, Roxie Market and Deli and TundraStop.com) were generous in showcasing their products, project vehicles and assist with the event. Secondly, we had 132 vehicles pre-register the event and had just shy of 100 vehicles check in to pick up the free Northridge Toyota event goodie bags.

By popular demand we offered the GPS Challenge where participants had to locate GPS coordinates with challenges posted at each location. We decided to make the challenge more difficult by offering 21 gps sites and surprisingly we had a group of 3 vehicles successfully complete the entire challenge!

A new addition to this year’s event was the onsite tech seminars sponsored by both Hi-Lift and PowerTank. One in particular happened during the night run where one of the vehicle popped the bead on the front tire. Having the equipment available for a quick onsite repair using both the Hi-Lift and PowerTank proved its worthiness by saving the night run from disaster. It made for a great mini tech seminar which helped showcase how nice it can be to have the right tools for the right job.

Carnage report! An event is never complete without some carnage to report back! Hugh props to those who had carnage, for how they handled it and to those who helped them out and made sure they made it back safe. Here’s a short list of carnages sustained: FJ Cruiser with a blown rear diff, 2^nd gen 2-Door 4runner with a burnt clutch, FJ Cruiser with some crush zone damage and a busted rearview camera, busted beads on tires, Honda CRV with a toasted transmission, a bent D44 front axle from a Jeep Rubicon, plenty of dented skid plates and sand that will never be removed from everyone’s vehicle.
